Is there any maintenance required?
Solar photovoltaic systems do not require any maintenance; they do not have any moving parts. Manufacturers recommend panels are cleaned once a year with water and a soft brush.
What happens if there is a power cut?
Your system will automatically shut off as it is connected to the grid; this is to protect people who may be working on the grid to restore power.
Do I need planning permission?
Most properties will not require planning permission as PV installation is classed as permitted development. We would advise you to seek guidance from your local planning department if your home is a listed building or is in a conservation area. Advice can be found at www.planningportal.gov.uk/permission/house
Do I need to contact my local authority?
All properties require a building notice to be submitted to your local council’s Building Control Department, Sunrise Solar will send this application on your behalf.
Is there enough sunshine in the UK?
There is ample sunshine in the UK to operate a solar system effectively. Solar panels work use daylight rather than sunshine so even on a cloudy day you will be generating electricity.
How do I get paid for the Feed-In Tariff?
Your electricity supplier will pay you quarterly based on the meter readings you submit. This is generally done by email.
How well do solar panels work in the winter time?
Your solar panels will still generate electricity throughout the winter months even though the number of daylight of hours is reduced.
What is an inverter?
An inverter converts the DC (direct current) electricity generated by your panels into AC (alternating current) electricity to be used around your home.
Will my roof need to be strengthened?
Generally original timber roofs with purlins are very strong and will cope quite easily with the additional load. More modern roofs constructed with trussed rafters are more likely to require strengthening. Sunrise Solar will advise on site survey.
